Sunday evening, after coming back from a weekend at home. I got a t-shirt design task. I do help them but to my condition, order the tees with me. Well my tshirt shop have been so dull this few monts due to the exams and all the preparations. So now I grab this chance to keep my shop activeagain. Furthermore, I had a few plan in this September for a short vacay. just a short one before new semester starts!
So yesterday during the evening, I gather all the information necessary for me to come up with a design idea for them. at first they give me the rough idea of the tshirt they want.

At first they want to proceed with this design to other tshirt printing company they know. To grab this chance, I send to them two design samples for them to choose. I did some improvise on the design. they said they want the word "NAVY" and image of an anchor must be on the front side. At the back is just their taglines and words. Also the TLDM logo and they want their name on the tshirt too. So I try my best to come up with a better ideas.

Although I'm aware about their requirements in adding the 'anchor' as their must-have item, I just testing an other elements of the naval things other than anchor on the front design, but I did include the anchor on the backside.
They like the idea of the anchor being on the front design and also the anchor to be on the backside.
But after a few while, they want to change the tagline on the backside to be "Ready To Sacrifice" . They want it to be as simple typography as possible. Well the ideas running wild in my head right now. Then i have done few samples for them to choose and after so many changes, then this one was about to finalise.

But still, some of them saying why it must be a line of dots?? Considering they are my friends, then i did some improvise on that, replacing with an element of navy, ropes!

After everything on the design part was done, then some issues about the pricing. Well this sure cost a bit for them as their quantity are not very much + design on both sides + full colour logo + name. I'm considering all of this carefully and come up with reasonable and affordable price for them. Some agreed but some not. It's normal but I get annoyed when one of them trying to copy my design and forward it to other printing company to get "cheapest" price!
I got upset and told them if they like the design, they have to do it with me. OR. they ask the other printing company to design a new one for them. I know many of tshirt printing don't bother getting trouble dealing with the designs with the people, they sure had so many changes and so many demand. They should have appriciate that I design for them on the spot and devote my whole evening to get the design they want and of course no charge! I bet printing shops outside there would charge them for keep on changing the designs and creating it.
Nevetheless, I still can handle them, just sharing my experience on dealing with the customers. Designing is a respected job for me. The process of generating artworks required so much patient so that the creativity will sparks. I'm sad that most creative designers out there, they've been paid for very low price for their artwork. Well it all depending on many factors but at least, appriciate the art! We don't mind doing so many changes, but treat them wisely.
I hope my client would proceed with the design and start this tshirt printing process very soon. Hehe
