Jim Kwik Speed Reading Crash Course

Well if you love to read, you would probably want to learn how to read faster with better comprehension. In this crash course, Jim Kwik has taught many people how to read faster through wonderful techniques that has to be trained in order to make it as a habit. Just like how you learn to type the proper way on the keyboard. It is not going to happen instantly but as we kept on practising, our muscles and brain is going to adapt it and we get the skill that we dream.

What He claim that you will you

Reprogram your brain to stop forgetting.
Learn anything at least 3 times quicker.
Remember all the names and important facts

To be honest, I've this interest which leads me to my ambition of being a neurosurgeon. The interest in unlocking the human genuises and to maximize the human brain functionality. I also love to read books about the brain and anything related to the mind.

So here I'm just going to share some of the tips and techniques taught in this crash course with 6 parts of video
Part 1 = 1:30
Part 2 = 0:42
Part 3 = 0:50
Part 4 = 1:10
Part 5 = 1:15
Part 6 = 0:43

Crash Reading.
typing. which technique faster? learn the smarter way

If typing habits is using two fingers, then you might want to relearn the proper way to increase the speed and accuracy of your typing. Same goes to reading. Some habits that you don't realise a slowering you down and this will also affect your reading comprehension.
Jim Kwik jugling, telling this activity can help in training you to have expanded vision and have bigger brain.
Expanded vision or peripheral vision is known as side vision; what is seen on the side by the eye when looking straight ahead. Peripheral vision is the work of the rods, nerve cells located largely outside the macula (the center) of the retina. The rods are also responsible for night vision and low-light vision but are insensitive to color. As opposed to central vision.

For an example in daily routine, driving your car will use very attentive peripheral vision, this helps in keeping you save from any movements and also the objects  around you.

[caption id="attachment_399" align="alignnone" width="1003"]example of peripheral vision applies during driving example of peripheral vision applies during driving[/caption]

So during the time you are reading, this vision will help you tracing the words around your central vision as your eyes are moving. Enabling you to process the words much faster.

To train this vision, try to focus on a point and slowly widen your vision around it without changing your eye position and without moving your focus point. Try to 'look' what are the things around your point of focus, the color, the shapes.

**In order to learn something, you have to fail, make mistakes.
mistakes that we make will help us become a better person.

gap of information that u need to > stress
how many hours per day you are willing to read?
average reading speed is about 200-250 WPM

How to find your WPM?
Try this website : http://www.myreadspeed.com/

Less than 1% of the country read beyond 400WPM

Speed reading is for you if:
-Have unread books on your shelf
-have too many emails in your inbox
-need to keep up with industry news
-have a growing pile of megazines, papers, etc
-want to have greater reading enjoyment
-are ready to catch up, keep up and get ahead
If you are able to read 600WPM, you are able to gain much faster and better than anyone else.
But as you learn this, you are not necessarily to always read the fastest possible,
as you become a trained fast reader, you have the ability to control your reading speed.
Many factors will cause you to adjust your reading speed.

Two part of reading : SPEED & COMPREHENSION

5 Obstacles

# 5 biggest obstacles to effective reading

[caption id="attachment_437" align="alignnone" width="2292"]5 obstacles to effective reading 5 obstacles to effective reading[/caption]

1-lack of education
You are not born to speed reading. You have to practise and
learn the correct way.

2-lack of focus
Have you ever feel when the time you are reading,
your mind go wondering and dreaming around. few minutes later,
you are yawning and getting sleepy. the problem is that, we are reading slowly.
slow reading are more distracting and cause the person to lose interest and tiring.
speed = focus
faster reader > better comprehension

3-subvocalisation
What is that? mumbling the words, saying the word?
it is the process of talking while reading. it slows you down.
that innervoice inside your head will limit your reading speed/thinking speed
if you are not entertaining your joy of reading, your brain will feel it boring.
'side words'-are words that spontaneously understood without saying it.
it can be cause by having seen it thousands of time before.

4-regression
rereading words that have already read.
this will break the flow of your understanding.
train readers have rythm

5-believe
trained readers believe they can read faster. believe they can improve
and they train everyday.
why people can't improve themselves?
because their mind have limit them. it is what they think.
therefore they act the way it is.
Analyse the same pattern and you will be doing better at it.

5P (Pillars) of KWIK READING goint to give you the power to speed reading

-Place (Where) the environment
*know the optimal learning environment
*temperature of your surrounding
*lighting and what colour and how bright it is
*minimum distractions as possible
*create anchors- the place can also triggers memories

-Physiology (What) your body, sitting, posture, rest, sleep
*posture-when bend down, less oxygen to the brain>yawning>sleepy

-Psychology (Why) why you are speed reading
*know your state-the best learning state
*relaxed alpha brain wave
*curiousity
*positive expectancy

-Procedure (How) technique that can efectively speed up your reading
*visual pacer-something pulling you forward(finger etc)
your eyes are attracted to motion, increase focus. all of our senses are so close in link
use left hand as your pace control-right brain process activated (combining with reading in left brain)
body-brain connections.
=book recommended: keep your brain alive
reading method: S method, center method, single line method
*highlighter-
*pen/pencil
*computer mouse
*those will increase 25-50% increase in speed & focus

-Practice (When) the key to speed reading, exercise everyday
Jim Kwik set the time of 5 minutes and the students started to read, faster.
At this time, comprehension is not the main point, pushing the speed to maximum.
As the speeds build up and become used to, the brain will start to comprehend the materials.

After a few minutes of explaining this, the students have to re-read the whole thing but this time,
the duration is reduced by one minute. Last, after the 4 minutes end, two minutes of rest and
start to re-read the whole material another last time but the time is set to 2 minutes only!
**Notes: you are not supposed to understand what you read, the objective is to double up the speed.

As the reading speed become twice faster, tense build up. This is designed training with the
purpose of training of our focus while we are studying and learning, our surrounding may be not
as comfortable as we would like it to be. We are try to challenge ourselves and with challenge
come change, expanding the eye muscle. This is normal, our brain will start to adapt to it as the training goes.
Ask simple wh questions after this 2 minutes of reading.
Doing a simple mind map, fill in anything you can remember:

who-the characters of the book. recognize the name
where-where is the setting taking place
when-the time of the situation

You will notice your brain start to think of the answers. Recalling what you have read.
This is also the part of reading, being able to understand and recall things your have read.
So by the next time you read you will become more attentive and will try to find the clues.

Begin reading by finding the answers and keep on asking yourself

[caption id="attachment_432" align="alignnone" width="303"]the-letter-t-twice try this![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_433" align="alignnone" width="400"]typos it's proven[/caption]

part 3 (Lecture Duration : 50 minutes)

If you want to practise and grow your speed reading. Pick fiction book. Than non-fiction will start to increase
Fiction reading would be faster reading than technical, difficult non-fiction will not be that fast but
can be improved. Greater focus and less time re-reading word. This is like a hook whick brings improvement in
you non-fiction reading as you fiction reading increase.

Many people doesn't want to read any faster than what they can digest and understand. This is normal.
The same thing goes to typing, people don't want to type any faster that will make them creating a lot of typos.
But the thing in common is, as you kept on increasing the speed and by practise, the mistakes will reduced.

Our body is unique, the more we train, the more we get the benefits.
Same thing as you hit the gym, running or swimming. As you keep on practise, you endurance increase.
Your muscles getting stronger and lesser time for you to get fatigued. It takes more than one day.

**Let's pick a book and read.
Read at the level you most comfortable with
Use left hand to guide your pace (this also stimulates your right brain)
After reading two minutes. Count the number of lines you have read. Then divide it by two

(total number of line read)
___________________________ =
(divided by 2)

Count the percent of growth for you reading speed.

speed-reading

#Reading Fitness
Warm up the muscles.

Examples in baseball player : they train swingging the bat using few bats.

Read in minutes ( 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 ) and rest for a few seconds in between.

What you can measure, you can manage.

**Tips : -Better comprehension? ask more questions
Each questions asks like a magnet.
Why not ask questions first, then try to look that up while you are reading.
While reading, many questions will come up, try to find the answers.

Part 4 (assessment)

People learn at their best when they are moving and less stress.
Start by reading as fast as you can (warmups) to stretch you eye muscles.
The speed maybe starting with 1 minutes and drag it to 4 minutes.
Reading in one minutes (to stretch) is a lot more to scanning the reading materials
Then lower down your speed while maintaining comprehension.

Setting up your body before speed reading training.
Doing some light movements, to wake the mind. To increase more o2 inhaled.
Reading during the morning and schedule the time to learn

**Tips
Using metronome to guide you getting the rythm and using your finger as a pace to guide your eyes.

Read - Record - Relate ( the ultimate way to learn and to comprehend )

read record relate

Get a partner a tell what have you read.
Then, get a pen a piece of paper to write the outline of what you understand.

who is the person
what he's doing
where the event taking place
when is the event occur

Write just a quick simple words. use points.
Then, stop from reading and writing. Find a comfort and calm place.
Close your eyes and breath gently. As your eyes are closing, imagine.
Imagine what have you read, imagine the thing or objects that you remember while reading.
Pick one of the object, try to visualise it's color, texture, size and smell.
This closed eyes training : Try to recall 10 things on that day.

This is just to relax yourself after the reading training. Also, improve your memory.

Reading 4 Power:

-Power of Purpose
- "Why am I reading this?"
Don't let schools get in the way of your education

- "What is in it for me?"
Most people are very picky in choosing what book to read just because reading takes time,
and time is the valuable thing that will not come back once you lose it.

- "What is my outcome?"
Try to achieve what your target is in term of readings

- "How can this benefit others?"
This is quite challenging as you need to really understand the things and also,
you might need some simplified method for others to learn it the better way

Jim loves to meet the author of great books.

-Power of Organization

- "How is this information organised?"
- "How can I organize it better?"
- "How is all this information related to each other?"
- "How does this relate to what I already know?"
- "What is the easiest way to organise this information?"

-Power of Questions
5 W's + H

"What do I already know about this?"
"What information is important?"
"What is the main idea, what is the building blocks?"
"How does this works?" --> Trying to pull the insight, we have to willingly look for the information
"Is this correct?" --> Don't accept everything coming to your mind

-Power of Anticipation

"What's coming next?"
"What is going to happen?" --> making guess to it
"How will I use this?"
"How can I use this?"
"How can I make this better?"
"What will this mean to the future?"

Wonderful way to own the information is by asking:
How will you are going to teach this to somebody?
Learning how to learn. Thinking how to think.
The best reader/learner they asking questions a lot.
By asking questions, we are seeking for the answers and trying to figure it out

Ask yourself why are you learning things?

KWIK READING TECHNICAL MATERIAL

Don't just pickup the books and read. We have to get ourself prepared.

1.Map
-View the photos, illustrations, cartoons. Going through the images.
-Vocabulary --> just view the page and look up those vocabs that you don't know
-Prepare questions --> it is the key to better comprehension. asking before start reading
-Organise the info --> Creating a memory grid
-Review --> look at your mind maps, that are from outside your brain, now try to close
your eyes and try to recall the map and imagine the details. This is very powerful to
install the information in your brain.

2.Skim
-Defined as reading very fast. S-method or Z-method. the purpose is not read it yet. get the idea
-Allows you to organise informations, get the big picture of the content, cause confusion that leads to questions.
3.Read
-Better understanding. Start to read the details.
-As you reread the material, it will stick to your mind stronger and better.

Enjoy  reading and learning !

Tutorial : Verify PayPal dengan Maybank VISA Debit Card 2016

Assalamualikum pembaca sekalian.

Proxy problem solved!

Thank God my laptop's proxy issue has solved. I'm not sure what kind of malware did it infected but the effect i couldn't access the internet via browser. Especially Chrome. Normally we have to go to settings>proxy settings and unchecked the proxy button there it happened to me the option was grey out! never happen to me before. After some research on the web and ckecked the pc, this thing : "Change proxy : http = 127.0.0.1: 8080; https = 127.0.0.1: 8080" Keep on coming out even after I changed thru the REGEDIT and some stuff recommended by other users on a forum. Later, I check my antivirus if it is intact. paid quite expensive but still cannot detect malwares, i'm pretty dissapointed. Checking on the net for the top free malware software and I try this one : Malwarebytes  It's a good one and it's actually working. That is what most important. Unfortunately, this good product is quite pricey. Might use it after my current antivirus expires. Now tho...

Serabut mana pun, be positive

One after another rules and regulations jadi strict. It's not like before. baru je nak merasa naik senior ni boleh atur hidup lebih terancang. huhu Member tak henti-henti ajak training volleyball untuk masum. masalah sekarang ni lom tentu lagi dapat keluar main nanti. Training bagai nak rak. Lagipun May and June ni memang pack lah. Fokus untuk grand finale. Semua aktiviti selain study aku dah ketepikan. Sejak akhir-akhir ni pun asyik balik lambat malam-malam. So kena study jugak setiap hari at least buka juga slides tu go through walaupun macam da tepu penat segalanya. Tak boleh ikutkan mood. Nak berjaya kena SABAR ! Last time medik oncall menjadi issue. Medik pun dah kena join itu ini like everyone else. Not a problem to me i guess, but yang problem ialah pentadbiran semakin rancak pulak. salah sikit je collective. ganggu beb nak study ni dah dekat nak finale. dengan dasar baru: training first, academic second. begitu lah. Look at the positive sides, baguslah nak melahirkan pegawa...
